Robot Lawn Mower

What are the advantages and disadvantages of robot lawn mowers? Are robot lawn mowers something you should consider for your lawn to reduce your work while keeping your lawn nice and manicured? One of the first things to realize is that these lawn mowers are generally more expensive to purchase than traditional lawn mowers. Once you get past the sticker shock, you can begin to compare many of the other points that might impact your decision.

One of the significant features that should be considered when purchasing a robot lawn mower is whether it can actually cut all of your lawn. Do the batteries have sufficient power to cut all of the lawn, including any small hills that you might have. If not this is a definite short coming. You can purchase a second battery however that means you have to be around to replace the battery.

Does the robot lawn mower have sufficient power to cut your lawn? Both size of the lawn, length of the grass and whether the lawn is flat or hilly will have a major impact.

Robot lawn mowers can be intelligent or dumb. For example can you set the time for the robot lawn mower to undock, cut the lawn and re dock or is it totally manual. A manual robot lawn mower requires much more management and observation, so while you may save work you may not save time.

Waterproofing is another important feature, both in terms of actually being rained on, but also dealing with wet grass and having sufficient battery power to cut a wet lawn. A automated robot lawn mower may have to contend with a wet lawn since the timer may call for a lawn cutting during a rain storm.
